Dip your favorite beer battered fish or fried shrimp into this creamy, tangy, and herbaceous Homemade Tartar Sauce with the bright bite of cornichons and fresh dill. With just a few simple ingredients and a quick stir, there will be no need for the bottled stuff.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup cornichons, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon brine from cornichons
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Splash of hot sauce, optional
  • 2 teaspoons capers drained and rinsed, roughly chopped, optional

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and mix to combine.
  2. Let refrigerate for an hour.
  3. Taste and add additional salt if needed.

Notes

  1. Keep refrigerated in an airtight container and it will last for up to a week.
